Simple Pleasures: Singing in the Shower

Oh, how the hot streams of water flow down my skin,

Warming my exposed form.

Oh, how the steam warms the air everywhere in here

Along with sweet white noise.

Alone in the white of this porcelain fortress,

I’m free and unafraid.

I ask myself

Will I sing?

I will.

In here, there is no one to please, nobody to tease me,

No one to hear but me.

In here, I can sing out my heart and my hurt and start

To clean my body up

As I cleanse myself clean to begin the new day,

I savor soapy cloth,

And my soft hair.

White bubbles,

Wash away.

I’m ready for this day
